A level crossing near Oswestry, which was at the centre of safety concerns after a tractor was in collision with a train, is undergoing "essential repairs".
Rail bosses applied for an emergency closure. But they say the work has nothing to do with claims made during a recent court case that the crossing is unsafe.
Weston Rhyn level crossing was closed between 11pm yesterday and 4.30am today and will be closed again tonight from 11pm until 4.30am tomorrow.
Shropshire Council spokeswoman Jenny Fullard said: "Shropshire Council would like to advise that Network Rail has applied for an emergency rail crossing closure at Weston Rhyn.
"This is to enable Network Rail to carry out essential repairs to the crossing.
"A signed diversion route will be in place via Station Road, Chirk Bank Road, Oaklands Road, Chirk Road and vice versa."
Network Rail said today the closure was not connected to safety concerns raised last month during the trial at Mold Crown Court of Weston Rhyn farmer Steven Butler.
Mr Butler was cleared of dangerous driving and an alternative charge of careless driving, following an incident on July 19 last year when his tractor was in collision with a train.
However, after the trial Network Rail said the crossing was safe and they have never received complaints.
Rachel Blackman, Network Rail spokeswoman, said: "I understand they are doing track work or maintenance to the track and nothing to the level crossing.
"This is not connected to the recent court case."
Network Rail said following the incident at the crossing all aspects of it were fully tested and all found to be in working order.
