Shropshire bus provider Arriva Midlands has announced a reduced timetable over the Christmas and New Year period.

No buses will run in Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, with fewer buses on the roads on other days around the festive period.

A detailed glossy booklet has been published and is available on buses, at local libraries and tourist information centres, Shrewsbury bus station or Telford Travelink.

And transport bosses have urged bus users to check the timetables before setting out to avoid long waits at bus stops.

In Telford & Wrekin and Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth and Oswestry, services will run as normal on December 21, 22 and 23. On Christmas Eve a normal weekly service will run but buses will come off the roads earlier with no buses running any later than 9pm.

No buses will run on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, with a limited Sunday service in place on December 27 and December 28. In Telford & Wrekin, most services will run a reduced Saturday timetable on December 29 and 30 except the number 9, 39, 99 and 323 buses which will run as normal.

In other areas of Shropshire buses will run to the weekly school holiday timetable from December 29 to New Year's Eve, meaning that they will be less frequent during peak times. No buses will run across the whole of Shropshire on New Year's Day, with normal services resuming on January 2.

Arriva communications manager Keith Myatt said: "Customers wishing to find out more information about bus services operating during the Christmas and New Year period have a number of different ways of doing so."
