Manager Darren Goodall will take charge of Shifnal Town for the final time this weekend after announcing his intention to quit the club.

Goodall, who became boss in October 2007, has decided to resign after claiming there is a lack of ambition at the Phoenix Park outfit.

Shifnal are on course for their highest ever finish - eighth place in the Midland Alliance - despite being plagued by financial problems in recent months.

"It comes down to the fact that my ambition isn't matched by the club," said Goodall, whose assistant Martin Thomas will also quit.

"We want to take the club forward and build on what we have done this year.

"There have been problems this season and none of the players have received any expenses since December.

"To be challenging in this league, you need a budget and there are people out there who want to take the club forward and have done since December. But nothing seems to be happening from the club's point of view.

"I said last week that they had to talk or I would walk and that's what it has come to. I am very saddened because Shifnal are a fantastic club and there is massive potential there."

Priorslee-based Goodall has vowed to take charge for Shifnal's final game at home to Causeway on Saturday and is anxious to return to management soon.
