Post crisis a new low for Labour
Letter: I cannot believe the level that New Labour has sunk to in the current crisis in our industry.

This government owns 51 per cent of Royal Mail and not only does it do its distribution work via the competition – TNT and Business Mail – it allows the competition to operate at a subsidy, charging less to deliver a letter than it actually costs.
The plan to sell 30 per cent of the company to private (read foreign) competitors is unnecessary.
This government has bailed out the banking system and our pension shortfall of £5.8 billion, which is a direct result of the Government taking a payment holiday for many years, is surely chicken feed in comparison.
If they made up this shortfall this would release £300 million a year that Royal Mail as a company is having to repay to the fund to then modernise the company. This is lower than that projected as an investment by any investor. Back your postal service, it is British.
