Campaigners fighting plans to build 37 homes in a Shropshire village are set to lobby councillors and the district's MP in a bid to stop the development.

Members of the Save Prees Action Group (SPAG) are unhappy at proposals to build the properties at White Brook Meadow.

They say although affordable homes are needed in the area, the properties will not cater for local demand as Bromford Housing Association, which is behind the scheme, has not specifically earmarked them for people living in the Prees area.

Bromford has submitted an application to North Shropshire District Council to build 14 three-bedroom houses, 15 two-bedroom houses and eight two-bedroom apartments on the site. All of the homes will either be managed, affordable, or sold on a shared-equity basis.

Sarah Adams, for SPAG, said today: "Prees is a small village, but the size of the development is huge. It's comparable to what would be proposed for a town.

"There's no provision for people to work, there's no paid employment in Prees at all and there's very little transport provision.

"We have got together in Prees and formed an action group. We are lobbying councillors, various people, Owen Paterson MP and the like.

"We do want local housing and we do want it for people who are already struggling and maybe want to get on to the property ladder. . .

"The village can't cope with 200 people."

She said they wanted people to object to North Shropshire District Council.

The plans are likely to be considered by the council's development control committee in early October.
