A Shropshire town has been taken over for a weekend of music and entertainment, with acts flooding from across the UK.

The Whitchurch Weekender is expected to attract hundreds of people to the town today and tomorrow, with bands and DJs performing in a number of venues.

Organisers are billing the event as a real coup for the town and hope to bring a "feel good factor" to Whitchuch that will put the area's music scene on the map.

It will also be helping to raise funds for charity as 25 per cent of the proceeds will go towards Whitchurch Hospital.

The town's civic centre, the Caddyshack club, and the Red Lion are hosting an array of acts over the weekend.

Tom Johnson, event organiser, said: "The aim is to try and rekindle the nightlife and live music scene in the town."
