Outrage over cost of road closures

LETTER: Obscene, incompetent, and unbelievable, that was my reaction to the council's stating it is to continue to close Ottley Road for STFC home matches.

This has cost taxpayers £1,000 a match. It's a good salary for the two guys putting the signs out for what must be only two hours work each.

No shame was shown in the fact that although the ground was years in the planning and has been open for almost a year, that due to incompetence at the planning stage nothing was done to address the access and regress of supporters.

What did the councillors expect building on a green field site, without such basics as an appropriate footpath. They have also tried to hide their gaff buy installing two flashing signs.

Warning of pedestrians at a cost of more than £10,000 to try and hide the fact that they are admitting that pedestrians will be walking on the road, these signs would have been more appropriate near schools.

Unfortunately I, as a customer of Shropshire County Council and Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council (aka taxpayer), cannot sack them and ask for another local authority to deal with this issue.

We are, as they say, stuck with them.

So how long, fellow taxpayers, are we going to tolerate this waste and incompetence in the way such projects are run?
