Jennings Investments LLP have applied for planning permission for an extra 17 apartments at the former home of Shrewsbury Town FC, which already has consent for 156 homes including 112 open-market properties and 44 affordable units.

The firm sold the majority of the Abbey Foregate site to Barratt Chester at the end of last year to make way for a £60 million housing development, but retained a small part of the land.

Graham Day, director at Jennings, said the new application was for 15 new three-storey apartments and an additional two apartments.

The plans also include a substitution of house types from two maisonettes to four flats in a five-storey block.

Jennings is also seeking permission for a new substation/bin/cycle stores, construction of an access track to Network Rail land and an improved car park layout.

Mr Day said: "We're just changing some of the size of the units for saleability as some of them were a bit big. Barratt's are going to buy it once the planning comes through."

Wayne Barraball, head of development control at Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, confirmed the plans were for land within the existing approved development footprint of the site.
