Castle backdrop for launch

Whittington Castle provided the historic backdrop to the launch of Oswestry Borderland Tourism's 2008 brochure.

With a foreword by TV presenter and broadcaster John Cushnie, the brochure extols the area as a place to visit and a place for local people to explore and enjoy.

Derek Brassey, operations director of Oswestry Borderland Tourism, said it was a mine of information about the town and region, with sections on history, heritage and the many attractions and beautiful countryside visitors could enjoy.

He added: "The section, On our Doorstep, looks at opportunities to go further afield, making Oswestry and the borderlands an excellent base for further exploration."

The brochure also gives details of places to stay in the area.

Mr Brassey said: "Accommodation providers are also members of Oswestry Borderland Tourism so they have a common aim to promote our area and ensure quality standards are maintained.

"The compilation of the brochure has been a real team effort, supported by both Oswestry Town and Borough Councils. We hope that, by distributing them locally and nationally, people will be persuaded to visit our special, borderland region."

Copies are available at tourist information centres locally and much further afield, and at selected venues throughout the region.
