Idea over motte and toilets
In reference to Castle Bank and subsidence. Who was the surveyor and engineer who planned its renovation, relaying of paths, removal of mature trees and bushes?

Was the surveying done correctly and has the groundworks in 2001 contributed to the subsidence?
It seems to me the solution perhaps is to pack the old toilets with soil or concrete then turf over the whole lot.
If those old toilets which are part buried in the motte are removed, further and worse subsidence looks likely to occur.
Also there's some quite delicious irony in thinking that future archaeologists will be looking at a twin feature, a Medieval motte and a sealed entombed 1960s toilet block.
"Entombing" the toilets sounds rather a funny suggestion, I admit, and I have had a bit of fun here, but seriously it would give back stability to the motte.
Those spending a penny were then likely to visit the market hall and spend a bit more. Maybe it would be better to renovate the toilets?
Better for us Oswestrians caught short, better for business in the market hall and better, indeed, for our old motte.
