Italian food chain, Prezzo, could be the latest national company to move into Oswestry, fast on the heels of Marks and Spencer and other big names.

The company has applied for planning permission to convert a former shop in Church Street into a new restaurant. It would mean new jobs for the town centre.

Oswestry borough councillors will debate the plans tomorrow when they will hear that one objection has been received.

This relates to the impact of a new restaurant on existing cafe and food retailers.

However, council officers in a report to the meeting, say that there has been a growth in the culture of eating out and socialising.

Britain seems to be moving in a similar direction to continental Europe where an increase in food outlets has been seen to benefit the variety and vitality of the town centre, the report says.
