Apology is needed for rant

With reference to P B Johnston's letter published September 22, may I say that I have never read such a nasty, vile or cowardly letter in all my years of reading the Star's letter page.

With reference to P B Johnston's letter published September 22, may I say that I have never read such a nasty, vile or cowardly letter in all my years of reading the Star's letter page.

Mr Johnston's rants about the fire service have been treated with disbelief by fire service personnel and derision by the majority of the public we meet. But now Mr Johnston's attack on a member of the service staff smacks of paranoia and could be damaging.

Has Mr Johnston thought about how such a letter could affect people?

The person in question is in fact on permanent day shifts and therefore is not even on station at night.

He has been in the service for over 25 years and has carried out his duties quietly, efficiently and with dignity and does not deserve this treatment. He is not a politician, he is not the figure head of the service, so he has not volunteered himself to be attacked in such a way.

Mr Johnston your argument, if you ever had one, is now a dead duck. The victim of your bitterness deserves an apology. Lastly why have you never taken up your invite to discuss your concerns with the Chief Fire Officer?
