The incident happened on Meadow Farm Drive, Sundorne, at about 2.15pm on Saturday.
It is the second burst pipe in Shrewsbury since Thursday when residents in Coton Hill were shocked to see a 40ft torrent of water shooting into the air at a building site after contract workers hit a pipe.
Dawn Fisher, who saw the water spillage in Sundorne, said: "The fire brigade was here waiting for the water board to turn up, but the water was gushing around everywhere.
"The police turned up and blocked the road off."
Severn Trent Water inspectors were sent to Sundorne to assess the damage and turned off the water.
Police were directing traffic away from area and diverting cars along Moston Road.
A police control spokeswoman said: "We put a block on the road because cars were struggling to get through because the water was getting quite bad.
"We were helping out with traffic controlled and were called out about 2.20pm."
Firefighters also attended the scene.
A fire control spokeswoman said: "There was not much we could do. It was a burst main."
Nobody from Severn Trent Water was available to comment today.
