Two people have been killed and a woman is fighting for her life in hospital today after a spate of accidents in Shropshire.

A motorcyclist in his 50s died in a hit-and-run crash on the A458 Bridgnorth to Stourbridge Road yesterday.

The man was killed after his bike collided with a BMW, which was driven from the scene at Mose, at the crossroads leading to Claverley and Quatt.

And a cyclist who who was thrown 40ft down an embankment when his bike hit a wall in Bridgnorth on Saturday, died in hospital yesterday.

The man, thought to be in his 40s or 50s, was cycling in New Road when he failed to take a left-hand bend at 2.30pm.

He was thrown over the wall, falling down an embankment onto Underhill Street below, suffering head injuries.

The motorcyclist, who has not been identified but is from the West Midlands, was pronounced dead at the scene yesterday.

The single-carriageway road was closed in both directions for about three miles.

Police said the car, a metallic grey-blue or silvery blue BMW 3 series, failed to stop. They are now appealing for the driver to come forward.

The car collided with the silver Triumph Dayton motorcycle at 12.15pm.

Meanwhile, a woman is fighting for her life at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital after an accident on the A49 on Friday.

Four people were seriously injured in a two-car collision at Leebotwood, near Shrewsbury.

The crash, involving a Toyota and a silver Hyundai, happened just after 3pm. Two people from both vehicles were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by air and land ambulances.

The female front seat passenger of the Toyota is in intensive care. Her condition was today described as stable.

The driver of the Toyota is stable in the high dependency unit. The other two patients also remain in hospital.

A 60-year-old man died after being hit by a tree near his home at Moelygarth, near Welshpool, on Saturday. It is thought he was felling a tree on land on the Llanfair Caereinion Road.
