Judges theatre of wigs

I found John Lloyd's letter "What do you think about Judges without wigs?", Shropshire Star, August 16, quite entertaining.

I found John Lloyd's letter "What do you think about Judges without wigs?", Shropshire Star, August 16, quite entertaining.

Invited to express an opinion upon judges indeed - albeit their head gear, whatever next?

Of course the time has come for this farcical adherence to a bygone age of "theatre" to be consigned to the rubbish bin.

The following comment from Mr Lloyd's final paragraph, "But it is understood that some lawyers are upset and say their wigs provide an air of authority," is sure proof that whilst a crystal ball is desirable, they still remain quite oblivious as to how they are perceived by us from the "other side of the counter".

As for achieving anonymity, why do they seek this? Is it because they are afraid of reprisals?

However, if anonymity is a "must have" why not wear wigs back to front? This would of course continue the said "theatre" but with shades of Dads Army "Don't tell them your name Pike" or should it be "judge".
