I feel that I must draw the attention of you and your readers to some excellent service that I received recently from the Shrewsbury branch of Lakeland Ltd.

As someone who is euphemistically described by the press as a "silver surfer" and, more accurately, by my son as a "crumbly" I have occasionally been known to preface a statement with "in my day" before having a good rant about modern standards of service or behaviour.Consequently, I feel that I must draw the attention of you and your readers to some excellent service that I received recently from the Shrewsbury branch of Lakeland Ltd.

My wife and I called to look at an appliance that might, or might not, meet our needs. The appliance was duly presented for examination with enthusiasm, as one would expect.

But we were then advised that they happened to have a demonstration model on the premises, which we might borrow for a few days, to make sure that it was exactly what we wanted, all without any obligation or deposit.

The icing on the cake was when the assistant offered to deliver it that day, providing we didn't mind waiting until 6pm, since she could call or her way home from work.

Such enthusiasm is enough to make a grumpy old man choke on his cornflakes.
