The Royal Irish Regiment is expected to arrive at Clive Barracks in Tern Hill, near Market Drayton, on August 13 to relieve the departing Royal Anglian Regiment.

A ceremony will held on the day when members of the First Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment take over duties at the base.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman today confirmed the two battalions would exchange flags and security duties.

The First Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment, which has been involved in operations in Sierra Leone and more recently Iraq, will be moving to Shropshire from Fort George in Inverness.

They will be replacing the hundreds of soldiers from the Anglians, known as The Poachers, who only returned to Tern Hill last November after spending seven months in Iraq.
