Strike a reaction to jobs threat
Oh dear, Elsie (letters, June 12 and 25), you appear to have rather a large chip on your shoulder regarding postal employees and how much they earn.

Many of my colleagues come from all walks of life and have skills that could be used in other types of job, but they choose to work for Royal Mail because it helps to pay for their houses, cars and holidays.
If you had bothered to do some research, you'd have noticed that the strike is mainly a reaction to the potential loss of 40,000 jobs, which would affect the service you receive now.
I would also suggest you take note that on the day of your second letter being published, Mrs S Evans won Letter of the Week for her reply in which your views are referred to as "insulting" and "small-minded".
Judging by a host of similar replies, I'd go as far as to say you are in the minority.
Finally, as to the scale of skills you seem so obsessed with, let me advise you to go to your local sorting office and see for yourself how "stupid" we postal workers are. Window cleaners are possibly only higher than us because they use ladders to help them get there!
