Show noise only for a weekend

I have never before felt the inclination to write to any newspaper or other publication, but on this occasion, I would like to reply to a letter (Starmail, June 10) under the headline "We should speak up over noise".

This obviously referred to the annual Bike Show which was held at Tern Hill over a weekend in June, and the writer, who asked to remain anonymous, was encouraging residents to contact the district council and West Mercia Police to complain about noise from the bikes and music.

While I can fully accept people may be right to complain about continual and ongoing noise pollution, this event takes place over one weekend in the year.

It is extremely well organised and is stewarded entirely by the bike club. I have been to this show over several years and noticed that public event issues such as safety, traffic control and public order are taken seriously and managed very efficiently.

The money the bikers hand over to various groups is generous indeed and all come from show proceeds.

I think it is small-minded the anonymous writer is encouraging others to complain about this great event.
