Cameras would stop road idiots
Yet another inquest has been held into an accident on the A442.
Yet another inquest has been held into an accident on the A442.
How many more will be held before the police take real action against the antics of a few drivers who can't wait for half a minute?
My heart goes out to those injured or bereaved by those clowns, but every time I travel on that road I see an accident just waiting to happen. Perhaps I shouldn't use the word accident, because these are deliberate actions of idiots.
To leave two chevrons distance between yourself and the car in front is impossible.
If you try to do so someone, breaking the speed limit, overtakes and cuts into the space forcing you to slow down to try and make the brake distance again.
Last week one did just that, then because they were still travelling faster than the car in front, pulled out again to overtake then dived back in again, almost cutting off their nose because they wanted to leave the A442 at the next junction, which was right there, not another two hundred yards further on.
That driver gained nothing by his second overtake. He only forced the other driver to hit his brake momentarily - he was also leaving at the same junction.
The money spent on white paint and road signs proclaiming 60mph, which are totally ignored, would have been much better spent on speed cameras - only those who break the law fear them.
The sensory speed sign that illuminates when you are over the speed limit would be much better and fitted with counters would, I'm sure, be an eye opener to all, especially if you were to publish the results weekly.
