Speed camera article challenged

The negative spin and misrepresentation in your article "Camera failed to prevent crashes" (Star, March 21) is disturbing and disappointing.

The article's comments are inconsistent with the facts provided to your reporter and cannot go unchallenged.

The original installations were not in the "wrong spot"; collisions, speeds and levels of offending in the vicinity of the installations have reduced since the cameras commenced operating almost three years ago.

The only reason for these planned changes is alterations to the road layout due to adjacent development.

The alterations will help preserve the benefits already achieved and allow relocation of equipment, at the developer's expense, to extend the benefits along the road.
