Upgrade road signs at blackspot
In reply to the letter from M Knight regarding Wombridge Way and the dangers, perceived or otherwise, I too have lived in the area all my life and can remember one fatal accident, again involving a motorcyclist, in exactly the same area about 15 years ago.

There have also been several serious accidents in the vicinity in similar circumstances.
I recently followed a car up Wombridge Way when it moved on to the wrong side of the road approaching Newcastle Motors island, confronted by oncoming traffic the driver realised his or her mistake. Clearly the driver thought it was a dual carriageway.
The road itself has a dual carriageway look about it. Each end of the road has a dual carriageway coming onto it. Indeed I have a feeling it may have originally been intended to be a dual carriageway.
It is certainly the widest cycleway in Telford.
I agree the road itself is not dangerous, but the signage, under the circumstances, is rubbish.
The coroner has, not surprisingly, insisted the signs be improved now. When the same sort of accidents keep happening for the same reason then something is clearly wrong.
I feel extremely sorry about the motorcyclists involved in the fatal accidents and for the drivers who were misled, in some degree, by bad road design.
I drive for a living and have covered at least two million miles in doing so. When driving on unfamiliar roads, the signs and design of the roads and the positioning of other traffic, are all your senses have to rely on.
There is no consistent standard overall, with increasing traffic it's not easy out there.
I am also an advanced motorcyclist and realise more than most that someone else's mistake will probably be my downfall.
