Charging motorists elsewhere

I have read with concern that the council is seriously considering introducing congestion charging inside the loop of the river in Shrewsbury and possibly other towns in the county.

I live just outside the loop of the river, but in the many years I have lived at my present address I have seen the volume of traffic increase to a point where now, according to the council's latest electronic survey, over 10,000 vehicles per day, every day, pass outside my house.

I live in a residential area with a large infants/junior school and a sizable aging population in private and purpose-built retirement homes. Neither of which is a good mix with heavy traffic.

Such a large increase in traffic here has been most unwelcome for local residents.

However, I can see the amount rising even more if vehicles try to avoid paying any future congestion charge by avoiding the town centre.

I wish to make residents of other areas aware that their quiet street may suffer the same fate. Increased volumes of traffic can occur anywhere as drivers will try to avoid paying and create new rat runs.

I would not wish the massive increase in traffic we have here on anyone.
