We must be given a choice

So Gordon Brown is trying to woo voters with his caring about a sense of Britishness. Is this the same Gordon Brown who has done so much to destroy unity with Wales and Scotland by his insistence on devolution?

The Labour government has presided over the break-up of the Union and are hell bent on breaking England up into regions, although a referendum in the north-east soundly rejected this idea.

We already have a West Midlands Regional Assembly (Cllrs Keith Austin and Ian Fletcher are already members of this) and there is a possibility of it becoming an elected Regional Assembly, yet another expensive tier of government.

This is just another step towards breaking up England and is an obvious attempt by them to achieve their way "by the back door"against the wishes of English people.

We now have a minority Labour administration at Telford & Wrekin Council intending for us to become part of a city region, with no reference to the electorate. Would your readers choose to be part of a united England, or part of a regional assembly that's only an outpost of Birmingham?

A referendum would reveal the answer.
