BMX track a waste of our money
I reply to the report on page 26 of your paper, dated January 4, 2007, headed "New games area and cycle track praised". I am somewhat surprised at both the police and the chairman of our parish council for boosting up this cycle track.
I reply to the report on page 26 of your paper, dated January 4, 2007, headed "New games area and cycle track praised". I am somewhat surprised at both the police and the chairman of our parish council for boosting up this cycle track, but I suppose it is quite understandable when the officer informed the public that she had visited a few houses and over 75 per cent of the residents wanted this track.
It is outstanding how she let her imagination wander after only visiting a few homes. When the 83 residents present objected the chairman, who appears to be obsessed with this BMX track, only managed to obtain the parish's permission to build this track with his own casting vote.
Your readers will recall the hash T&WBC made of the chicane they built in Station Road, Admaston, some months ago and wasted thousands of pounds of public money when the chicane was a danger to the motorists.
Well, it has happened again, for this track has been built on a swamp with no drainage. The surface is gradually deteriorating, mud is now percolating through the side walls and the whole surface is becoming too dangerous to use.
However, the major problem is now the entrance to the track is no other than a foot deep of slushy mud. It is, as in the case of the chicane, becoming a danger to the children, and a complete waste of public funds.
They tell us RoSPA has approved this site; may I suggest they make another investigation.
This is the second time in months the borough has wasted public money.
