Pressure on parking
We moved into Cherry Orchard in Shrewsbury 19 years ago. We were pleased because the area was so friendly. Our house didn't have off-road parking but that didn't worry us as we were all considerate about parking.
We moved into Cherry Orchard in Shrewsbury 19 years ago. We were pleased because the area was so friendly. Our house didn't have off-road parking but that didn't worry us as we were all considerate about parking.
Over the past few years, though, new families have moved in and often have more than one car/van per household. So parking has become very difficult.
Sometimes we find we can't park outside our own house because someone who might live 12 doors away has not been able to park and the nearest available spot has been outside our house.
The problem is that over the last few years we have been getting threatening notes put on our car. The first was three years ago. We returned from my mother's funeral and there was no space outside our house, so we ended up having to park a few doors along.
The next day, though, there was a note placed on our windscreen telling us we had no right to park there.
No-one would own up to the note. We have had to park in the same spot since and again have had nasty notes put on our car, as have other people. Still no-one will own up. How sad that the owner of these notes can't approach us and ask us to move instead of being so vindictive.
We pay our road tax. The street is a public highway.
The local council says our parking problems are bad only on football match days. What a load of rubbish. If they did a survey they would find a lot of non-residents use King Street for parking so they don't have to pay in town.
