European Union is not answer

The letter supporting the EU as the answer to war is a common claim for the purpose of the EU. Unfortunately history teaches us a very different lesson. Forced and undemocratic federations of nation states end in conflict as we are seeing vividly in Iraq.

The same happened when the old Soviet Union broke up with wars in Chechnya and Bosnia and Yugoslavia. The best defence against war is healthy democracy within nation states, which puts the people firmly in command of politicians and bureaucrats rather than the other way around.

Stable and true democracies such as Switzerland, Sweden or Norway don't create wars because the people control politicians and don't want wars. Unfortunately, the EU is not a democracy.
