Support enables success
It was good to read of the success which Charlotte and Ben Hollins are achieving at Fordhall Farm, and they, their volunteers and supporters deserve the credit and recognition.
To balance your correspondence, I should like to point out that financial support from the EU-funded Leader+ initiative was instrumental in helping Fordhall Farm with their fundraising by paying for a full-time project manager. It will be continuing to help them in a similar way until the end of 2007.
Our programme has provided funding for nearly 100 separate projects since 2002, working with voluntary and community groups and small businesses. We have brought in more than £800,000 in funding to north Shropshire - and a similar amount for south Cheshire - to support these projects aimed at improving the quality of life and economic prosperity of the area.
To benefit from the EU requires people to make it work. The people who have worked with our Leader+ programme have discovered this. We've been part of the European Union for over 30 years, and should be working with it to benefit from it.
