How much cash gets to Africa?
With reference to the letter recently in your letters page, headlined "Unwanted Umbrella," I too received an umbrella followed two days later by a pair of child's socks from the same charity "Feed my People" (which is one I have never heard of).
I contacted them to ask why they hadn't sent these things - one of many hundreds, I presume - to Africa where they were needed.
I was told if I didn't want the items to take them to the charity shop.
When you think of the cost incurred, plus administration, one wonders how much money gets to Africa anyway.
I also asked how they got my name and address and the answer was if I supported other charities regularly, which I do, they sometimes pass on names to others. No wonder we get so many requests through the post.
