Windfarms will spoil beauty
On September 11, Wales buried one of its most famous sons, with a service at Bangor Cathedral. The great and the good from all over Wales and much further afield, gathered to pay tribute to Sir Kyffin Williams, one of this little country's most celebrated and respected artists.
Above all else, Sir Kyffin will be remembered for his powerful artwork, depicting brooding images of the hills, mountains and rugged coast-lines of his precious home-land.
At the service, another Welsh giant, from the steep ramparts of Gwynedd, paid a moving homage in song to his fellow-countryman. As Bryn Terfel sang the poignant, very apt words "My heart lies in the mountains of my home!", many a lump stuck in many a throat.
The impact on the many leading Welsh politicians, who attended the cathedral would have been far greater. But, I wonder? Did they really reflect on the words of that song and on the work of Sir Kyffin Williams? Both reflect the natural, unspoiled, rugged beauty of Wales.
Can you imagine this great artist attempting to capture the wild beauty of his homeland by including gigantic, modernistic wind turbines in his landscapes? Can you imagine Bryn Terfel praising the whirling monsters in heart rending songs?
Of course not. The whole thing would be laughable.
