Listeners tuned in in their thousands as the station, which broadcasts round the clock from Shrewsbury and Oswestry, went live on air at 7am.
It is the first time the towns have had their own commercial radio station and listeners were greeted with the sound of Sting's Seven Days.
The Severn, a music-led station with news, weather and sport, presents different shows in Shrewsbury and Oswestry. It broadcasts on 106.5 FM and 107.1 FM.
