Different laws for police?

On the day that a notice for prosecution for speeding drops through my door I see with interest that PC Mark Milton of West Mercia Constabulary has been given an absolute discharge for driving at 159mph on the M54.

This you will know is twice the maximum speed limit. I have to admit to driving at 37mph in a 30mph area on the outskirts of Much Wenlock last Sunday evening.

I have a £60 fine and three penalty points; PC Milton an absolute discharge.

Am I missing something or is there one law for the police and another for the rest of us?
