Honesty always a good idea

We read the article "Council tenants in call for referendum" (Shropshire Star, August 18) with interest and applaud Barbara Perkins for saying it is essential we (the council) are honest with tenants.

On several occasions chief executive Paul Shevlin has stated that council house funds have run dry. So can Mrs Perkins answer this: How has a cash starved council managed to come in under budget on the housing revenue account for two years running, this year by a massive £248,000?

We have asked Mrs Perkins this on more than one occasion and have had no answer. The fact it is able to come in well under budget indicates a council well in control of its budget, with no money problems concerning the housing stock.

We look forward to Mrs Perkins's honest answer.
