Shropshire YFC members prove that branch is best

Every young farmer in the country, when asked, would say that their county federation is the best, writes Shropshire YFC chairman Joe Hamer. It's only natural.

But Shropshire YFC has been busy proving my thoughts that we have the best members – and, in turn, the best county federation in the country.

They have been collecting silverware left, right and centre and we have public speaking teams through to the national finals.

Nesscliffe Young Farmers' Club is through to the national finals of the drama competition. This is something that has never been achieved before by a Shropshire club.

Nesscliffe will be performing its drama at the YFC national convention in Blackpool over the May Bank Holiday, so I wish them all the luck and look forward to watching them.

As I mentioned, over the May Bank Holiday, young farmers from all over the UK will congregate in Blackpool for three days for the annual meeting. This is the highlight of all YFC members' year and a great chance for them to meet new people and also catch up with all that's happening at the national federation.

And at the end of the business a few halves of lager will be drunk, I'm sure.

Preparation is well under way now for both the Shropshire Show and the county rally.

These are a chance for the public to see what YFC is all about and see competitions, from flower arranging to sheep shearing.

The rally is at Sydney House Farm, Kynnersley, Telford, TF6 6EB, and entry is free.

As for Shropshire Show, that's at the county showground in Shrewsbury on May 25. These events are both great days out for the whole family so it would be great if you could join us.
