The sounds of U2, Queen and the Rolling Stones rang out around Shrewsbury on Saturday.

Of course it was not the real thing but some of the very best tribute acts in the country.

Hundreds of music fans packed out a giant marquee by the river in the Quarry for the fourth Shrewsbury Fake Festival.

Green Date, the Really Hot Chili Peppers and Kazabian completed the line-up.

There was a real authentic festival feel at this year's event thanks to Storm Hannah who brought heavy wind, mud and rain.

Festival-goers were decked in shorts, wellies and there was plenty of glitter - just like Glastonbury.

Event manager Lee Storey said: "This is our first event back of the season and it's gone really well - especially considering the weather.

"We had lots of people worried about whether it was going to go ahead or not but we made sure we were on site on Friday and made sure everything was set up before the storm hit.

"It was always going to go on. People love Fake Festival. It's a community event and it's aimed at bringing local people together."

Having seen his favourite band U2 perform many years ago, Phil Wright, of Shrewsbury, went along to see how New 2 compared.

"I was pleasantly surprised," he said. "Obviously no one will every do it as good as Bono but I thought they were really good.

"It's a great day out and a good thing for Shrewsbury. Next year I'd like to see a Jam tribute in town."
