The multi-award winning, best-selling author is also the very loyal and supportive President of Shrewsbury Bookfest, which celebrates its 21st birthday this May Bank Holiday weekend.

‘Book Birthdays’ will also be the theme for Bookfest’s all-day family event in the Square, where there will be a host of free drop-in activities for children of all ages to enjoy.

This event has been sponsored by Gallliers Homes and supported by Shrewsbury Town Council.

And families can have fun joining in with the ‘Bookfest Birthday Quest’ treasure trail around the town, spotting art creations by local primary schools celebrating some special birthdays of the very best-loved children’s books.

Aardman Animations will be back on May 5, offering children and adults the chance to make their very own Morph, Shaun the Sheep or Feathers McGraw clay models under expert guidance from one of the studio’s top model-makers.

And younger children are set to be enchanted by a rich mix of storytelling, physical theatre, clowning, puppetry and music and song from Theatre Fideri Fidera and their award-winning production of ‘Oskar’s Amazing Adventure’.

This production has won the Primary Time's Best Children's Play Award.

Tickets go on sale in early March and can be purchased from shrewsburybookfest.co.uk
