Shropshire County Show visitors urged to use alternative Shrewsbury routes
Visitors to this weekend's Shropshire County Show are being urged to avoid Shrewsbury town centre and use other routes in a bid to cut delays.
Organisers of the show, which takes place on Saturday, want visitors to the show to have as relaxing a time as possible.
And they are urging drivers to use the Baschurch, Leaton and Berwick Road route to the West Mid Showground rather than cutting across town.
Show trustee Judith Williams, said: "We are anxious to ensure that the journey for visitors travelling to and from the showground is as rapid and stress free as possible this year.
"We are urging traffic, whenever possible, to use the Baschurch, Leaton and Berwick Road route, thus avoiding congestion in the town especially around the traffic lights at the Ellesmere Road/Berwick Road junction at Coton Hill.
"This route can be accessed off the bypass, Ellesmere Road and Harlescott Lane area of the town and from Baschurch and Montford Bridge. The route is a mile or two longer but can greatly reduce the travelling time of visitors attending the show by cutting queues and waiting times."
The same advice was given for the massive bonfire event that took place at the showground last November.
"This was good advice and saved the bonfire's very many visitors the long delays and resulting frustration caused by queuing at the traffic lights both at the Coton Hill junction and in and around the railway station," added Mrs Williams.
Visitors to the show will be able to use a number of alternatives to access the Berwick Road site if they are not coming by car.
The pontoon, which will be installed on Friday, will give showgoers the unique opportunity to cross the River Severn. The crossing is free to show attendees from early on show day until late in the evening.
The park and ride will also be available as will the car parks in and around Shrewsbury and especially the Frankwell car Park.
The show opens to members at 8.30am and to the general public at 9am. The show will officially close at 6pm but members are welcome to stay on-site to enjoy the after-event party.
This year's show will have tractor pulling, young farmers' chariot racing, a horse show, gun carriage demonstration, parade, livestock arenas and craft and food stalls.
