Arts venues across south Shropshire will pay tribute to much-loved actor Pete Postlethwaite, who died earlier this year, with special screenings of his film Brassed Off.

Flicks in the Sticks will be screening the story of coal pit closures and brass bands tonight at Lydbury North, near Bishop's Castle, near where he lived.

Ludlow Assembly Rooms will also hold two screenings next month.

The showing at Lydbury North Village Hall will start at 7.30pm and tickets will be £3.50 or £2.50 for under 16s. They will be available on the door.

Ludlow Assembly Rooms will be showing a matinee of the film at 2pm on March 6 and at 7.30pm on March 7, after running a vote to see which film audiences would like to see in tribute to Mr Postlethwaite.

Dido Blench, from the Assembly Rooms, said: "It was probably his most popular film. We will also be looking at screening his last film, Killing Bono, in May or June."

A memorial to Mr Postlethwaite took place on Wednesday at St Leonard's Church, in Shoreditch, on what would have been the Oscar-nominated actor's 65th birthday.

Mr Postlethwaite was heavily involved in local arts and culture organisations and was the patron of Ludlow Assembly Rooms.

He also raised money for the south Shropshire-based Caitlin Kickstart Award, which provides financial assistance to teenage actors from the region.
