Results from the Church Stretton and District Gardening Club summer show.

stretton-treesPoor summer weather was blamed for fewer high-quality class entries in this year's Church Stretton and District Gardening club summer show.

But John Bricknell, show secretary, said the show, held on Saturday, August 29, was still fairly well supported, with colourful entries in the flower section.

The results were as follows:

  • The Banksian medal – presented by the Royal Horticultural Society to Mr. Reg. Beasley for being the exhibiter with the most points for the Fruit & Vegetable and Flower classes 1 to 55.

  • The Presidents Cup won by Mr. Reg. Beasley as the exhibitor with the most outstanding exhibit in the Fruit and Vegetable Classes for his leeks.

  • The Weatherall Challenge Cup won by Mr. David Glanville as the exhibitor with the highest points in the Fruit and Vegetable Classes.

  • The Reverend C. Woolley Challenge Cup won by Mrs. M. B. Phillips with the best entry for a Vase or Bowl of mixed flowers in Class 29.

  • The Tarbuck Challenge Cup and a special prize presented by Mr. Percy Tarbuck were won by Mr. Doug Small as the exhibitor with the highest number of points in the Flower Classes.

  • The Nickson Challenge Cup won by Mrs. M. B. Phillips as the exhibitor with the second highest points in the Flower Classes.

  • The Howard Robinson Trophy won by Mrs. Jean Henn as the exhibitor with the highest points in the Floral Art Section.

  • The Dr. J. A. McClintock Trophy won by Mrs. Jean Henn with the outstanding exhibit in the Floral Art Classes.

  • The Heather Kent Trophy won by Mr. David Glanville for the best Fuchsia exhibit in Class 51.

  • The Botvyle Bowl won by Mrs. M. B. Phillips as the exhibitor with the highest points in the Cookery Classes.

  • The Major F. G. B. Weatherall Challenge Cup won by Mrs. Sandra Hayward for the best exhibit in the Handicraft Class.

  • The George Simpkin Cup won by Mrs. Lynne Gray for the best exhibit in the Photography Classes with a photo of a Landscape.

  • The Goss Cup won by Mrs. Carol Bowen for the best exhibit in the Art Class.
