Telford Tigers set to face the Guildford Flames in play-offs

Telford Tigers will play Guildford Flames in next weekend's EPL play-off quarter-finals after a dramatic weekend of games for the county men.

A 5-4 overtime defeat at champions Manchester Phoenix yesterday followed a 4-3 loss to the Flames on Saturday, with that encounter proving to be a dry run for the final-eight showdown.

Results elsewhere mean the sides will now definitely meet at Telford Ice Rink on Saturday (5.30pm), before a return fixture in Surrey on Sunday.

Tigers coach Tom Watkins is set to turn his attention to those games – starting with a week of intense preparation both on and off the ice.

He said: "Play-off hockey is tough and the team who plays the hardest usually comes out on top.

"We have been giving the guys some little teasers over the last few weeks and making them aware of what will happen.

"Some of our players have won championships before, but others haven't been near a play-off series.

"It is exciting for everyone. We've got our place in the playoffs. Now, the target is to qualify for Coventry."
