Telford Tigers to launch a second 'B' side
Telford Tigers will be looking to secure the future of home-grown players with the launch of a new side in the National Ice Hockey League next season.
League officials this week invited the Tigers to enter a second team in the Laidler Conference.
The side, essentially a B outfit, will be based at Telford Ice Rink, and form part of a pathway of talent, from juniors through to the senior Tigers squad.
Paul Thomason, general manager of the Tigers, wants the team to offer local youngsters a step on the ladder into top-flight ice hockey.
He said: "Having a cohesive strategy throughout the age levels in Telford is crucial to our vision for developing and supporting talent.
"It is fantastic that we will be able to offer youngsters a route into the senior side. That is the hallmark of a successful development system.
"Of course, the new side won't be there just to make up the numbers. There is no point in icing an uncompetitive side."
The Tigers will be holding trials for the new National Ice Hockey League side on Saturday at Telford Ice Rink.
NIHL-standard players, aged over 16, are invited to attend the two-hour session, which begins at 3.15pm.
