A weekend of two halves for Telford Tigers
Telford Tigers put in a convincing performance on home ice on Saturday where they were too strong for Bracknell Bees, skating to a 5-2 win.
Tigers' forward Scott McKenzie ended the game with a hat-trick, including a final-minute empty net shot to give the Tigers a two-point boost.
Other goals on the night came from Tigers' leading scorer Tim Burrows and a neatly-converted shot from Callum Bowley.
Having collected the two points from the Bracknell game Tigers made the trip to the steel city to face the much improved Sheffield Steeldogs on Sunday.
Despite battling hard in an entertaining game, they ended up on the wrong end of a 6-3 scoreline. Tigers remained in the game until the final stages with goals from Jaroslav Kruzik, Ryan Selwood and Tomas Karpov.
Tigers' player-coach Tom Watkins declared himself pleased with the result against the Bees, saying: "The guys played with a real resiliency. We dug in and most importantly we got the two points.
"We've been playing really well recently and the boys have responded well to what we are asking them to do."
Next weekend sees Tigers play two home games – Sheffield Steeldogs making the return visit to Telford on Saturday, before the Slough Jets arrive on Sunday – both games face-off at 5.30pm.
Looking ahead to the two games, Watkins added:?"We are playing with some confidence right now and if we work hard and play our game we are capable of getting a four-point weekend."
