Wolves boss Paul Lambert: Let's take more risks

Boss Paul Lambert wants his Wolves team to take more risks as he bids to endless their winless streak against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Wolves last won a match on September 24 and have dropped down the Championship table to 19th, just two points ahead of the relegation zone.

Lambert played it safe in his first game as Wolves boss at Preston on Saturday, setting up to make his team harder to beat, which they managed to do in a 0-0 draw.

But he now wants to see his players express themselves more in the final third as he chases an elusive Wolves victory.

"I think we've got to be more creative when we go forward and be more of a risk-taking team," Lambert told the Express & Star.

"I think we've got a decent enough base (but) in the last third of the pitch I think you've got to take the risk.

"You attack as a team and defend as a team. But in the last third of the field we've got to take more risks.

"If you lose the ball teams have still got to run 80 yards to get a goal, so I'd like to see that and people being on the front foot, like I've always said.

"Take the risk, whether someone has a shot or produces a bit of magic in a one-v-one situation."

Wolves will be without skipper Danny Batth for the visit of a team he impressed for during two loan spells.

The captain is suspended having picked up his fifth booking of the season at Deepdale, while keeper Carl Ikeme is still a doubt having missed the past three-and-a-half weeks with a side strain.

Wednesday are currently nine in the table but with a big crowd of 27,000 expected at Molineux, Lambert said the onus would be on his team to attack.

"It's a home game and the onus is always on the home team to make the running," he added. "We're up against a good side who've invested heavily and they're ahead of us in the table.

"But if we can take Saturday's performance into the game with some intensity, and have that little bit more up top, we'll be on the right lines."
