Mike Williamson's woes go on at Wolves
Injured defender Mike Williamson is 'going back to square one continually' as he strives to return to first-team action for Wolves.
The 32-year-old has yet to feature since signing permanently for £200,000 in January.
He arrived at Molineux with a hamstring injury, which has now cleared up, but further complications have left him unable to reach full fitness.
However, he still has a chance of featuring this season, boss Kenny Jackett claims.
The Wolves chief has been saying for a while that Williamson is only a week away from a return – but the stopper has consistently suffered setbacks.
Jackett said: "It's a real frustration for him and for me. He's getting up to a point, around 80-90 per cent, and then can't get through it and is going back to square one continually.
"We feel then within a week or two we can turn that round, but he's hitting the same problem consistently.
"They're trying to look at it from another angle and go a bit deeper, scan it slightly different, send him to somebody different to try to find the problem.
"That is stopping him finding that last 10 or 20 per cent to just basically be able to run and play football.
"He's getting most of the way there and can't quite find the last bit. It's kept him out for months and it's a big frustration to everybody at the club.
"We've set a few targets and are continually within a short space of time that he could get over it."
Jackett is desperate to blood Williamson before the season finishes on May 7 and thinks that could still be the case.
He said: "I'll be disappointed it Mike doesn't play at all between now and the end of the season.Quite conceivably, he could do a week or two's training and then come straight onto the bench.
"I feel that in a young group if we can get one or two key experienced players that can make a big difference. That was the reason he was brought in."
