Danny Batth: Wolves have grown in character
Captain Danny Batth believes Wolves have grown in character of late – and insists their season isn't over yet.
Batth was at the heart of a defence that battled to a first Molineux clean sheet of 2016 in the 0-0 derby draw with Blues on Sunday.
And the 25-year-old, who in the continued absence of Mike Williamson is Wolves' oldest defender, thinks the young back-line has come on leaps and bounds.
He said: "It was perhaps the kind of game we would have lost before Christmas.
"It shows we've developed a bit of character and there are players that are stepping up from that younger age group now and starting to put solid performances in.
"You look at the average age of the team and it's probably the youngest in the division. Some of the younger lads have definitely matured this season.
"You look at Kortney (Hause), he was brilliant against Birmingham. Ethan (Ebanks-Landell) has had a setback with his injury, but he was solid before that.
"It's good to see and it's good for the club."
Wolves remain smack bang in the middle of the Championship table, 12 points off the play-offs and 11 ahead of the relegation zone.
With just nine games to go, it seems the season is all but over. However, Batth insists that's not the way it's being viewed by the players.
He said: "No, definitely not in the dressing room. It's business as usual and we're working very hard towards three points in our next game, that's our focus.
"There's obviously a battle for places coming now with injured players coming back and hopefully it won't be long before we've got competition for places."
Wolves are unbeaten in three at home, a record Batth wants the team to build on now.
He added: "Any team wants to do well at home. You want to express yourself and get on the ball, we've shown a bit more composure on the ball, it's not been so direct."
