Soft goals cost us dear, admits Wolves boss Kenny Jackett

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett bemoaned his team's defending as they went down 2-1 at new league leaders Middlesbrough.

Two goals from Gaston Ramirez prolonged Wolves' barren run at Boro, where they haven't won for 65 years.

Wolves rallied late on thanks to a Ben Gibson own goal, but it was too little, too late in a deserved defeat.

Jackett said: "I felt that Middlesbrough had the edge on us, they started both halves very strong.

"We didn't get hold of George Friend or Albert Adomah, it opened up the space for Ramirez to come into the hole and he caused us plenty of problems as well.

"It was a frustrating night, we couldn't get hold of them.

"We finished quite strong and got a good goal back but then in the last few minutes couldn't do enough to be able to get an equaliser.

"I was disappointed with how we conceded both goals. The first one, we should have attacked (the ball) and then Ramirez has come in around the back from a soft cross.

"There were three or four challenges leading up to the second goal we missed.

"Generally down their left, our right, they were very dominant, opened things up too many times and took control of the game."

Were there any positives he could take from the game?

"The way we finished, we finished well and didn't go down easily in that particular period, that's a positive," Jackett said.

"But Middlesbrough are a good side and had too much of an edge for us tonight."

Ethan Ebanks-Landell limped off injured and had his foot in a protective boot as he left the Riverside.

Just 291 fans made the long trip north on a Friday night for the televised game, with some boycotting it over ticket prices.

Jackett said: "Their support is much appreciated.

"We really do value their following and their support."
