Wolves sign starlet – and one gets away

Wolves have snapped up teenage starlet Aaron Collins – as they had an alleged £3m bid for a Ligue 1 striker turned down.

Collins moves from League Two side Newport for a small six-figure fee.

He will feature predominantly for Scott Sellars' under-21 squad, but travelled with the first team to London for today's game against QPR following doubts over the fitness of Bjorn Sigurdarson.

The move represents a remarkable rise for Collins, who just two years ago was working in McDonald's so he could afford to travel to train with Newport.

He made his Newport debut in August and has since scored three goals, with Manchester United and Newcastle believed to have scouted him.

Collins, a Wales under-19 international, has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Wolves having the option of another year.

"It feels great. It's a great step for me, my family are so proud," the teenager said.

"My parents were up here with me as I was doing the medical and, as soon as the papers were signed, it was all smiles."

Meanwhile, Wolves are thought to have had a £3m bid for Nantes striker Emiliano Cala rejected.

Nantes president Waldemar Kita said: "This is not about money. We need him."
