Wolves set to sign Mike Williamson on loan
Wolves are expected to sign Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson on loan later today.
Williamson has fallen down the pecking order at St James' Park and Wolves have moved to sign him up on a one-month loan deal.
It is anticipated the deal will be completed today.
If he joins the centre half will help ease a growing injury crisis, with Kortney Hause and Ethan Ebanks-Landell on the sidelines and Dominic Iorfa a doubt for Saturday's crucial West Midlands derby against Birmingham City.
Former Watford defender Williamson has five seasons of Premier League football under his belt at St James' Park where he has been a regular in the team up until this season.
Aged 31, if Williamson joins he will become Wolves' oldest player by two years and add much-needed experience to a struggling team that have lost their last three matches.
Wolves have shipped nine goals in those games and boss Kenny Jackett spoke of the urgent need to bring in a defender on loan earlier this week.
Williamson has played almost 400 career matches and made his name at Wycombe Wanderers.
The 6ft 4in defender featured 33 times for the Magpies in all competitions in 2014/15 but has played just twice under new boss Steve McClaren this season, both in the Capital One Cup.
