Danny Batth dreams of Wolves promotion

Captain Danny Batth is dreaming of promotion with Wolves – and admits he ran out of fingernails with frustration when out injured.

Since skipper Batth returned to the team after a five-month spell on the sidelines with a broken foot, Wolves have picked up an impressive seven points from a possible nine.

Kenny Jackett's new-look team are finally showing some promotion form – and Batth is just happy to be involved after an exasperating few months in the treatment room.

He told the Express & Star: "I did run out of fingernails to be honest, it was frustrating. At the same time, it spurred me on and motivated me to get fit.

"I was really looking forward to getting back. I don't think I missed watching a game apart from a couple of friendlies.

"It's been good to watch – learning from being sat there and sitting back is always interesting.

"The pitch looks a lot bigger, there's more space and you see the game differently."

'A lot of fishing' kept Batth busy during his absence, as well as a rigorous rehabilitation programme. And now he's back in the team he already has his sights set on promotion.

Does he dream of lifting the Championship or play-off final trophy come next May?

He said: "Probably every day, yeah definitely. That's why you're in the game. It's my ambition to lead Wolves into the Premier League.

"I'm the captain of the club and to lead Wolves into the Premier League as captain would be a remarkable achievement."

Meanwhile, goals from Donovan Wilson, Niall Ennis and Christian Herc gave Wolves Under-21s a 3-2 victory over Benfica in a friendly game in Portugal yesterday.
