Wolves linked with Real Madrid starlet
Wolves have been warned to keep Richard Stearman for their Premier League assault and beyond – as they were linked with a Real Madrid starlet.
The Molineux men have been named as one of a clutch of clubs interested in Bernabeu B defender Derik Osede, along with Southampton, Leicester, Burnley, Watford, Nottingham Forest and Bolton.
The 22-year-old stopper has played for Spain at every level from Under-16s to Under-21s after coming through the ranks at Madrid.
Head coach Kenny Jackett wants to strengthen this summer but has already said his defence is very competitive.
And Wolves favourite Jody Craddock, who played alongside Stearman from 2008 to his retirement last year, believes the 27-year-old's experience is going to be vital after he was named double player of the year.
"He's been up there in the Premier League and he's an experienced player now and he's what the younger lads will need around them," said Craddock.
"He's going to want to get to a testimonial and 10 years is a good innings by anyone's standards.
"He's going to want to keep going and get to the Premier League with Wolves.
"When you've got a young team and things are tough, the chips are down and you've got a crunch game, you've got to have a player who's calm. If you have someone who's been there, done it and understands what it's about, they can learn from that."
Craddock reckons Stearman is now Mr Consistent as he approaches his peak years. "Sometimes he'd have three quarters of a good season and then he'd tail off a bit, but this time he's been full steam ahead and had a really good campaign," he said.
Former Wolves midfielder Paul Cook, 48, has been named Portsmouth's new manager after they met his release clause from Chesterfield. Ex-Wolves boss Dean Saunders is favourite to replace him.
